Day 1- Ashgabat

Experience the ‘Las Vegas of the Kara Kum’ in Ashgabat, the vibrant capital of Turkmenistan. This modern city is a blend of history and luxury, with extravagant fountains, golden domes, and towering buildings set against a desert backdrop. Highlights of our visit include a trip to the National Museum and Kipchak Mosque.

Get ready to embark on the Golden Eagle after arriving. Enjoy lunch in the Restaurant Cars before exploring Ashgabat on a panoramic city tour, which includes stops at the National Museum and Wedding Palace

Day 2- Ashgabat & Darvaza

Experience the wonders of Turkmenistan with a morning visit to the ancient settlement of Nisa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Golden Eagle train journey continues with a stop at Ichoguz where we explore the famous burning gas crater in Darvaza, known as the ‘Door to Hell’. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness a spectacular sight that has been burning for over 40 years in the Kara Kum desert.

Day 3- Khiva

Today we embark on a journey from Urgench to the historic city of Khiva, boasting a rich history dating back 2,500 years. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a pivotal hub along the Silk Road, connecting Mongolia, Russia, China, and Persia. Marvel at its stunning architecture emerging from the desert landscape, including mosques, bazaars, and minarets within its ancient walls. Step back in time and immerse yourself in the charm of Khiva’s cultural treasures.

Day 4- Bukhara

Today we make our way to the awe-inspiring Bukhara, a city transformed by UNESCO for its 2,500th anniversary in 1999. Delve into history at The Ark, the ancient stronghold of the Emirs of Bukhara. Explore Poi-Kalyan Square, home to the majestic Kalyan Mosque with its traditional Islamic architecture. Wander through bustling Trading Domes and relax at the lively Lyabi-Hauz Square.

Weather allowing, end your day with a memorable barbecue on the station platform as we bid farewell to this remarkable city.

Bukhara
Registan Square, Samarkand

Day 5- Samarkand

Samarkand, with its rich history on the Silk Road, stands out among all other towns. Founded in the 6th century BC, its architecture reflects its former importance as a key city in Asia. Today, we will explore iconic sites like Registan Square, Bibi Khanum Mosque, and the Ulag Beg observatory. Experience an unforgettable evening as we witness a spectacular light show at Registan Square, immersing ourselves in Samarkand’s fascinating history and significance under the night sky.

Day 6- Tashkent

Explore Tashkent, the modern Soviet-style capital of Uzbekistan, rebuilt after a 1966 earthquake. Visit the Old Town with traditional homes and religious buildings, including a small library housing the world’s oldest Koran. Tour the Railway Museum and Museum of Applied Arts before enjoying a Farewell Dinner aboard the Golden Eagle on our way to Almaty.

Day 7: Almaty

Today, we reach our final destination, Almaty, and say goodbye to the Golden Eagle. Explore the city today with a tour that includes Panfilov Park, showcasing the stunning Zenkov Cathedral, a unique 19th century Russian Orthodox Church built entirely of wood.

Enjoy a luxurious stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Almaty or similar accommodation for tonight.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Almaty Airport for your flight.
