Matild Palace
About the Matild Palace
This stunning hotel is located in one of the iconic buildings of Budapest, built in 1902 during the Belle Epoque era. It was developed under the patronage of Her Imperial and Royal Highness, Maria Klotild of Saze-Coburg and Gotha and was meant to serve as a social hub of the vibrant city. You will see its twin palace, directly across the street, and this was Maria’s dream to have guests to Budapest be greeted by twin palaces as the crossed the Danube into the city.
The hotel, which is under UNESCO protection, offers guests rooms that feature elements of traditional Hungarian culture combined with Art Nouveau décor. It was built with large windows, most of which open, and this translates into incomparable views over the historic city center as well as the Danube. The lavish bathrooms feature Zsolnay colored tiles to evoke the feeling of the traditional Budapest baths. Each room offers a separate tub and shower, along with dual vanities. All rooms offer a complimentary refreshment center with water and soft drinks.
All dining is overseen by Wolfgang Puck. The Matild Café and Cabaret is a must visit and is a reimagination of a historical café originally opened in 1901. Spago offers guests world-famous trendy cuisine to guests of the hotel. Duchess is a hidden gem at the roof level that is a unique bar for your enjoyment. The hotel also offers a small fitness center and the Swan Spa, featuring a Turkish-bath inspired experience.
