About Krakow
With pomp and circumstance, Krakow exudes a medieval flair and a modern university-city vibe. Until the 17th century, Krakow was the capital of Poland and remains a cosmopolitan epicenter within the country. Artists and scholars have long flocked here, to a city that was mercifully untouched during World War II. The well-preserved, historic metropolis invites guests to stroll through the Kazimierz, the atmospheric and fashionable Jewish quarter, as well as the St. Mary’s Basilica, home of the world’s largest late-Gothic altarpiece. Festivals abound, with constant celebrations of the arts, theater, museum, film, dance, and food (we highly suggest a pierogi-making class!). As for its culinary appeal, you’ll find everything from kielbasa to meatless kebabs, vodka to lody (ice cream), as well as French, Italian and Asian-inspired restaurants. For some, a trip to experience the solemn memorial at Auschwitz and Birkenau is unmissable.
