This tour combines our Royal Cities of Poland tour with our Amber Cities tour.
First we will travel to Poland. The new Poland is one that may surprise you. The Soviet-style hotels and dreary restaurants are long gone and in their place you will find five-star lodging to rival any in Europe, along with an extraordinary number of restaurants to suit every taste. Our journey takes us from the Baltic Sea shore to the city of Krakow. We will explore imposing fortresses and castles, delve into country’s rich Jewish heritage, gain an insight into Poland’s turbulent history and sample the best of the new Polish cuisine.
Later we continue with our Amber Cities journey that will introduce you to the extraordinarily rich history of the region – from the Lithuanian Empire, which once spanned from the Baltic to the Black Sea to some of the best preserved medieval architecture of Europe in Riga and Tallinn. We’ll walk cobblestone streets and enter a former secret building of the KGB in Vilnius, visit the famous opera house in Riga, and tour an ancient Dominican Monastery in Tallinn. Driving between each city allows us to view the bucolic countryside and the many charming palaces and castles along the way. We will focus on this region’s turbulent history as part of the former Soviet Union and its success in maintaining independent, Baltic identities.
