The Hapsburg built their hometown of Vienna into one of the architectural centers of Europe and this legacy continues through today. As the seat of power for centuries, the Imperial city of Vienna boasts palaces (Hofburg in the city, Schonbrunn in the country), a world famous opera house (the Vienna Staatsoper) and performing Lipizzaner horses so unique that people travel from around the world just to get a glimpse of them. But don't expect to feel overwhelmed- this is a walking city, perfect for afternoon strolls to the famous cafe and torte pastry shop not far from your hotel.
Travel by hydrofoil to neighboring Slovakia and its enchanting capital, Bratislava. This still undiscovered city will surely delight you as you stroll around without fighting the crowds so often present in European cities. The National Opera House is home to one of Europe's top opera and ballet companies- so don't miss a performance while there.
Salzburg, Mozart's hometown has always been called the "city of music" and the nickname is well deserved. You can explore Mozart's life and stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Town- so well preserved that it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. You can also visit Mirabell Castle and travel to the beautiful and scenic Lake District, not far from town.
